On The Radar: December

It’s been a game-changing year for us here at IM and as well as continuing with the night, we’re looking towards some juicy new plans and music in 2019. As we wind down the year, we won’t be having an IM night in December but fear not - there is so much goodness on the cards for the next 30 days.

December 1st – The Get Down @ The Book Club

At our Imaginary Millions home base, we have the weekly certified Friday night bop, “The Get Down”. A night sure to leave you sweaty yet smiling, and if you can’t take the heat, get off the dancefloor. Shorebitch DJs and Jimmy plates on the decks keeping the bodies rotating to the sounds of hip hop to house. Solid start to the month!

December 3rd – An Evening with Michelle Obama and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

If it’s somehow escaped your radar that Michelle Obama will be gracing the UK with her presence, then here’s your chance to fix up. Michelle’s new book - Becoming - is available in stores and online now and she will be in conversation with the incredible, Chimamanda Adichie at Southbank Centre. If you get the chance to be in the presence of such magic, please don’t pass this up.

December 3rd – Wwwater @ The Waiting Room

We first came across Wwwater at Great Escape Festival earlier this year - easily one of the most memorable performances of the weekend. Since then, she’s gone on to support Connie Constance and again, her stage performance absolutely blew the crowd away. Frontwoman - Charlotte Adigéry - is a smooth dancer with a killer voice to match. Even if you miss the magic of Michelle and Chimamanda, you won’t feel like you’re missing out with this.

December 5th – Solidarity NOT Silence

We’ve been unfortunate enough these past couple of years to see several wxmen have their voices silenced or invalidated when talking about abuse. 100% of the profits from this event will be going towards legal fees for wxmen being sued by their alleged accusers. Led by The Tuts, GIRLI, Dream Nails and 2/3 of Dream Wife – you can expect a night of good music and good vibes. Join the cause for an inclusive and empowering night.

December 6th – Flohio @ Corsica Studios

Flohio made a memorable grand entrance earlier this year with her hit “Bands”, and has continued to impress with each of her releases since. Quick witted with her bars and also impactful with her presence. She won’t be in underground venues for very long if this year’s ascent is anything to go by, so catch her in the intimate spaces while you can.

December 12th – Last STEAM DOWN of 2018

The cats at Steam Down have had an absolutely incredible year. Every week promises a sweaty mid-week dance with complete strangers and amongst some of the best jazz musicians that London has to offer. They’ve had appearances just this year from Kamasi Washington to Ezra Collective to Sampa the Great, so I’m sure they’ll have something big up their sleeves for the end of the year.

December 15th – Brainfeeder X

Brainfeeder are celebrating 10 years this year and in honour of that, we received the absolutely beautiful compilation album from them earlier this month. What’s more; they’ve put together an unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime line-up of Brainfeeder alum incl. Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Dorian Concept, Gilles Peterson and more. This is not one to miss at all!

December 22nd – Soul City: Disco, House & Soul @ The Jazz Café

Spinning jazz, disco, soul, funk and house across the ages, all in one night. What more could you ask for? Aside from being set at the iconic Jazz Café in Camden, it’s also cheap as chips at £5 a head. With the year quickly coming to a close – what better way to spend it than shaking a leg?
